DEPMAT Annual Consortium Meeting 2024 at Outokumpu

On September 2nd, the DEPMAT consortium met at Outokumpu Nirosta in Krefeld, Germany, for a day of interactions and updating each other on the status of the research projects. With all industries and academic institutions well represented, the event offered a great opportunity to align views and planning the future direction for the DEPMAT program.

The Grade2XL project partners meet in Denmark: final meeting

On 27 and 28 August 2024, MAN Energy Solutions hosted in Frederikshavn (Denmark) a 2-day meeting with the Grade2XL partners for the project review sessions and an industrial visit of the facilities of MAN ES. The tour included MAN PrimeServ Service Centre Denmark for production, repair and retrofitting of the engines parts for broad marine and process industry applications.

Decarbonisation Routes for Steel Course

On 3-4 October 2024 TU Delft, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) will organize a course on Decarbonisation Routes for Steel. This course is designed for engineers and scientists working in ferrous metallurgy who would like to better understand the decarbonisation options facing the steel industry. The course will cover the basic chemistry of hydrogen production, combustion and reduction of oxides, consider the different ways hydrogen could be used to replace carbon in iron and steel production but also examine other options

Grade2XL Shines at the prestigious Institute of Welding conference (IIW2024) in Rhodes, Greece

Between 7-12th July, the historic and picturesque island of Rhodes, Greece, hosted the 77th Annual Assembly of the International Institute of Welding (IIW), a major event in the global welding community, providing a unique platform for professionals, researchers, and industry leaders to exchange knowledge, present cutting-edge research, and discuss the latest advancements in welding and materials joining technologies. This year, the IIW conference brought together almost 1,100 participants from 51 countries.

Erik Vegter honored as special member of the Department of Materials Science TU Delft

Last Friday, July 5th, our very own Erik Vegter was awarded with the special status of Member of Honor the Department of Materials Science of the TU Delft. He received the honor during the Materials Technology Day, which was organised by the department about the Groeien met Groen Staal groeifonds program. Erik was recognised for his various substantial contributions to the field of Materials Science during his career and his contribution to the department as an example for academic-industrial collaborations. Final Event Grade2XL on 11 July 2024 during the IIW2024

The final event for the Grade2XL project will be held during IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference (7-12 July, Rhodes, Greece). On 11 July Grade2XL will have its own dedicated session in the afternoon. In addition, Grade2XL will also have a booth at the IIW 2024 exhibition where two of the six WAAM demonstrators resulting from the project will be showcased.

TRIATHLON M6 meeting in Dresden & ILA Berlin

On 4th and 5th of June, TRIATHLON team got together for the M6 consortium meeting. Six months after the Kick-Off Meeting in Delft, the consortium met in Dresden (Germany), hosted by the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) of the Technical University of Dresden.

Building Bridges: Sabanci University delegation visits M2i

On 31 May, we had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from the Sabanci University (Turkey). During their visit, they showcased their state-of-the-art Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Center, SU-IMC. We explored various opportunities for potential collaboration, making the meeting both fruitful and promising. This initiative was facilitated by the Innovatie Attaché Netwerk, highlighting their commitment to fostering innovative partnerships with foreign knowledge hubs.

ESED kick-off was successful

We are excited to announce that ESED, funded by RVO, has been successfully kicked off on 13 February 2024. This project brings together 4 partners, with a.o. TU Delft, TNO, and ASML, to develop a universally applicable tool that will support designers in their decision-making facilitating circularity along the entire lifecycle of products.

New EU Project started: TRIATHLON Kick-off was a success

M2i is proud to announce that we are leading the European project TRIATHLON, a Horizon Europe project set to improve sustainability in aviation over the next 4 years. The project aims to develop disruptive approaches to design low-emission hydrogen-electric powertrains for megawatt class aircraft. Last week the TRIATHLON consortium celebrated the impressive proposal success with an equally impressive Kick-Off in Delft, hosted by TU Delft and M2i.
