M2i is teaming up with University of Twente, Imperial College and Aegir Marine to reduce the spillage of lubricant from seagoing vessels in the marine environment.
Seals are used as a barrier to avoid lubricant from the engine system to contaminate sea-water. We will investigate the degradation of such seals, which should be avoided to prevent lubricant spillage, but which could be accelerated by the use of bio-friendly lubricants. The collaboration will focus on the relation between lubrication conditions and degradation of the seal material.
